YouthCity's Arts Education Program

Global Artways becomes ‘YouthCity Artways’

Hello Friends,

As part of our ongoing mission to provide high quality youth and family arts programming, Global Artways is undergoing a sizable cosmetic change that has been a while in the making - for reasons detailed below, we are updating our name from Global Artways to 'YouthCity Artways'. Although our name is changing, our guiding philosophy and inclusive approach to arts education for young people remains the same. The name-change is a response to our exponential growth as part of programming with YouthCity and our projected future growth when landed in The Leonardo (please read more at TheLeonardo.org if you're not already familiar with this project).

In 1997, Global Artways began at the Sorenson Center. Our mission was to bring arts education to the Glendale neighborhood especially for young people who lacked access to high quality art instruction. Since then our reach has surpassed expectations, and is now an integral part of a city-wide approach to educating and enhancing the lives of young people and their families through the arts. With the advent of the Kennedy Center Imagination Celebration in 2002 our reach surpassed the confines of the city, and in the Leonardo our reach will expand again.

Global Artways is the youth arts education program of Salt Lake City Corporation. The City also maintains YouthCity programs, which provide after shcool and summer programming for youth. The name change provides consistency across all SLC youth programs including YouthCity Government, YouthCity Employment, YouthCity After-School, etc. Tying all youth programming together within the YouthCity name greatly enhances our ability to clearly communicate what we do, and how we benefit those we serve. This also simplifies the relationship of the three partners forming The Leonardo; the Center Documentary Arts (CDA), the Utah Science Center (USC), and YouthCity Artways (YCA).

Thank you for helping us place arts at the forefront of young people's experience.

Sincerely,

Dan Gerhart
Director, YouthCity Artways
